How long has this organization been in Kansas City?

We are in our 12th year.  Our first meeting was March 21st, 2013.  We’re always looking for new members, so please come join, and become a  member of 100+ Women Who Care KC.

Which organizations are allowed to be sponsored?

In order to be considered at a meeting, the organization must be located in the Kansas City Metro.  It must be a non-profit organization recognized as a 501(c)(3).

How is the organization that receives the donation chosen?

A member who has signed the commitment form can put the name of a local organization into the box for a random drawing.  Please note: You do not have to bring the name of a local organization, though it is encouraged.  At random, three organizations will be selected from the box.  The members who wrote down each name will be asked to come up and give a short 5 minute presentation as to why their chosen organization should receive the donation.  A 3 minute question and answer period follows.

What is a 501(c)(3)?

A 501(c)(3) is defined as “exemptions apply to corporations, and any community ches, fund or foundation, organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, educational purposes, to foster national or international amateur sports competition, promote the arts, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals.”  However, for the purposes of 100+ Women Who Care KC, all groups up for consideration must also be local 501(c)(3) organizations.  For more information, please visit the IRS web site.

How do I vote if I cannot attend the meeting?  What is proxy voting?

You can send a blank, signed check with a trusted friend to the meeting.  They will write in the name of the charity that is chosen and give it to the organizers on your behalf.  They do not vote on your behalf.  We can only count the votes of members who are present.

Or…

After the meeting is over, members who were not able to attend will receive an email informing them which charity was selected.  You can then write your check and mail it to the organizers (up to 10 days after the meeting) and we will send it to the charity on your behalf.

Can I just send the donation to the charity myself?  Why do you have to send it on my behalf?

The goal of the 100+ Women Who Care organization is to make a large donation on behalf of the whole group.  We want to be able to support this endeavor and give $10,000+ dollars in one lump sum to make an immediate, large impact in our Kansas City community.

How long do the meetings last?

Meetings are intended to be short, generally lasting no longer than 60 minutes.  However, we will be present at least 30 minutes prior to each meeting to get to know other members and answer questions.  We also stay after meetings for members who would like to socialize and meet other like-minded women.

Is my contribution tax deductible?  How do I get my tax forms?

Yes, your contributions are tax deductible.  All checks are written directly to the local organization NOT to 100+ Women Who Care KC.  Due to this, your tax forms will be sent to you directly from the organization that receives your contribution.  Please note: Any sponsored non-profit is not allowed to create, sell or distribute a list with your contact information.  They are also not allowed to solicit you for further contributions.

I would like to bring a friend to the meeting who is not signed up, can I do this?

Of course you can, we’re always looking to expand our organization’s purpose.  However, in order to vote, a guest will have to join our organization by providing a commitment form prior to the start of the meeting (forms will be available at each meeting).
